RUST

Using photography to explore an under documented area, Rust chronicles neighborhoods throughout the Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia regions representative of the Steel Valley. This series records the effect of industrialization on the small town and the similarities that these areas share. Over several months, five towns; Weirton, WV,  Steubenville, OH,  Donora, PA, Monessen, PA and Braddock, PA were documented in their struggle to find a place in a post-industrial world. These small towns are a depiction of a time that was and stand as a symbol of aftermath, history, and renewal. Rust doesn't ruin metal; it only needs to be tempered. It needs to be made stronger in order to survive.
